What is SSSS?

Rotary International District 3050 Charitable Socitey (Super Social Security Scheme)

A Great scheme was introduced in our District 3050 in the year 2005-06 under the name of Super Social Security Scheme (SSSS). The Scheme has a wonderful objective and far-reaching impact in bonding the grass route Rotarians throughout the District. In the beginning it got on to a very slow start but in the five years’ time gradually the momentum has picked up. Each and every Rotarian of the District should first understand the enormous advantage of the scheme and then try to become a self-motivated promoter within his/her club to bring the membership to a level when the benefits start looking attractive and more visible.

There is a century old tradition in India that the community comes forward in making small contributions on the occasions of happiness as well as adversities with respect to any individual living in the community. In Rotary, the District is like one large community. We have approximately 3200 Rotary members forming this community. This scheme provides an opportunity, through which all individual members can come forward with a token contribution in case one of the Rotarians in the District passes away. This would not only bring a support to the family, whose bread earner has gone but will also give that family a great comfort that a family of 3200 people are there to fall back on in case of need. There is no better way of fulfilling the dream visualized by Paul Harris while conceiving the concept of Rotary more than 115 years ago.

The scheme provides that in the event of any such tragedy, each of the members registered would contribute Rs.100/- each which will be pooled as a ‘श्रद्धांजलि योगदान’ to be presented to the family of deceased member as spirit of Rotary. The target was to have a minimum 1000 members so that the ‘श्रद्धांजलि योगदान’ to be presented would be a reasonable Rs.1.0 lac in each such case. Today fortunately, the Scheme has reached membership to 1160 and providing Rs. 1,10,000 to deceased member family as ‘श्रद्धांजलि योगदान’. Till Today the scheme has contributed more than Rs.1,80,13,500 as ‘श्रद्धांजलि योगदान’ to the 163 families of deceased member.

Some of us are very well off and well covered by insurance and do not feel that their families would not need any help or support, should such a mishap take place. They should also become members and can consider pledging such benefit, which will be receivable through SSSS for Rotary Foundation for which various schemes exist.

Each Club would try to get involved in this scheme religiously in the best interest and the spirit of the Rotary. Actually, this scheme is so attractive that 100% members should join. Even if we target a modest 2000 members, it would lead to a contribution of Rs.2.0, which would be a significant amount.
